How to Eliminate Stress Before a First Date

Being single is both fun and challenging. You can make your own schedule and practice your favorite hobbies without having to worry about disturbing or neglecting your partner. You can go out with the boys/girls and party till late at night and you usually have the whole bed all to yourself. At the same time, when you are not involved in a long-term relationship, the first date stress is a common present in your life.



You donít have to worry: you are not the only one who freaks out when going on a date with somebody new for the first time. What will we talk about? How to manage awkward silence moments? Where to go? What to do? What to say? These are common questions that come to peopleís minds when preparing for a first date.

However, you have to keep in mind that over-stressing can have a negative impact upon your dateís success and decrease the chances to get a second one. Here are a few tips on how to free yourself of this overwhelming pressure:

1. Donít go for rehearsed questions and answers!

Think that this is just an opportunity for the two of you to know each other. You donít want to sound like a robot. Be spontaneous and speak sincerely. Donít try too much to make a good impression as you might obtain the opposite effect.

2. Come up with an activity-oriented idea

The traditional first date idea refers to getting together for a cup of coffee, a drink or going out to dinner. As romantic as any of them might sound, they all focus on conversation; hence, the stress. Try to find out a few basic things about the person you are going to meet and come up with a creative first date idea. For instance, if both of you are into theater, you might consider a dinner-theater play. You can have your meal during the performance and afterwards, you will have a safe conversation topic. A theme-park can also be a stress-relieving venue for a first date.

3. Adopt a positive attitude

No matter how desperate to find your soul mate are, try to think positively. Remember that having a partner is less important than finding your true love Ė a person worth investing your feeling in and who would fill your life. Surround yourself by persons with a positive attitude and get involved in various activities until the time to go out comes.

By respecting these simple guidelines, you will certainly keep the level of stress to a minimum and increase your chances for a successful first date.
