Ever had the embarrassment of telling someone you like them and being rejected? Wether it's because they are actually taken, or they are gay and your straight. It's never fun initially, but you do get over it. Eventually you might even laugh about it.
But what about the times you have received a few signals? A wink here, a cheeky grin there. All the signs that someone could be keen on you. How does that work out? If you're getting signs that someone likes you as more than a friend, do you act on it like before? Or wait patiently for them to make a move so as not to embarrass yourself again?
You could wait, but if you do, it could be too little too late. Many of us have waited for someone to make a move, but it doesn't always work. Sometimes when someone is trying to show signs that they like you, they think the other person isn't interested and will go for someone who does show a bit of interest. Even if he/she wasn't the first choice.
So don't wait, it's better to know rather than to keep on wondering. If it doesn't work out and you're feeling really embarrassed, it doesn't hurt to ask them to keep it between you. And if it works out, well it was all worth it in the end.
