The food of love

You’ve brought the present; lit the candles; arranged the roses, and now all that is missing from your perfect night is the perfect dinner. But what to make?

Here are just a few ideas to you get you and your partner in the Valentine’s Day mood:

Drinks:

■Red wine - Red wine is perfect for relaxing and building romance.

■Champagne - Also known as the “drink of love,” it causes a warm glow in the body.

Entree:

■Oysters - Some claim that when eaten, oysters let you experience both the masculine and feminine sides of love making. We don’t know if this is true or not, but we do know that because they are bursting with zinc they cause an increase in sex drive.

Mains:

■Salmon with roast asparagus - Brimming with omega-3 fatty acids, salmon will keep your sex-hormone production at peak levels. Likewise, asparagus has been used since the 19th century as an aphrodisiac for grooms on their wedding night, but works just as well for women.

Dessert:

■Chocolate dipped strawberries - Containing both a sedative to relax you, and a stimulant which increases the desire for physical contact; chocolate really is the food of love. Add strawberries which have often been described in literature as “fruit nipples” and you have the perfect combination. Plus, let’s not forget the opportunity to hand feed your partner.

■Pudding with vanilla sauce – The scent of vanilla is said to increase lust, not that you will need it.
