Love and obsession can be easily confused. It is vital to know the difference between the two and ensure that obsession can be avoided at all costs. Obsession can create lost opportunities and make others not only feel uncomfortable, but trapped. This could also create an unhealthy relationship or may determine the outcome of it.

There are many signs of obsession to watch out for including:
- Controlling
- Extremely jealous
- Not giving their partner any space
- Don’t want to leave their partner out of their sight
- Keeping tabs on their partner by continuously calling and texting them
- Resentment
- Life revolves around that one person

A person must show strong signs of the above traits in order to show obsessive behaviour. One should avoid being an obsessive lover at all costs, as there are no positives behind it. Obsession can lead to many negative outcomes including destruction and harm to another.

Address the issues and take action into changing this type of behaviour. Distract yourself when you have thoughts of that person. Keep busy by doing other activities such as going to the gym or catch up with a friend for a debrief.

Alternatively join a support group or seek professional help to find comfort with other people, and talk about what can be done to avoid future obsessive behaviour.

Although you may have been an obsessive lover at one stage of your life, it does not mean you can’t change. These are life experiences that can only make you a better person, whether it means having a fresh start in your life, or, continuing a healthy and loving relationship with the one you are with.
